Our Mission at AFSermons.com
As a military veteran, I have a strong desire to bless America, and to bless America's Christian leaders. I envision AFSermons.com as a conduit through which America's Christian leaders will reach far beyond their local congregations. It is my passionate desire that this website will help mobilize and share inspirational sermons with America.(Left: Tim Wourms, President of America's Favorite Sermons)
The AFS Book
The reason for compiling this book goes back to my military days as a soldier and Helicopter Pilot for the U.S Army. One thing that amazed me about the Army was its ability to pull a group of men and women from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, and political ideals and create a cohesive, functioning unit. The camaraderie I experienced in the military I have not seen duplicated anywhere else. We were bound tightly together, willing to give our lives for the men or women standing next to us. We didn’t fight for political reasons; we fought for a core belief – that “freedom isn’t free”! We had a clear understanding of the value of our ability to function as one force. We appreciated the American way of life, and we would do whatever it took to preserve it.When I left the military and concentrated on being a good husband and father, I discovered very quickly that the camaraderie and togetherness I felt in the military was special and rare. But, there was one exception – the feeling I experienced with my church family.
My church family makes me proud that we have an extensive community outreach, and seek to bring all Christians together for revival in our city. Our church pastors have a heart for the community at large.
In more recent years what I discovered beyond my church has disappointed me. The strong divisions within the Christian community have shocked and saddened me. I believe this division began with the removal of prayer from our schools by leaders without morals, and has kept the unsaved from ever knowing Christ.
And so, in a very purposeful way, this book is about unity - about sharing what God has for us as we dwell in His community. Christians cannot remain so arrogant that we separate ourselves from the core value and beliefs we ALL hold sacred. We must come together; not as Afro-American Christians, Baptists, Catholics, fundamentalists, Lutherns, Methodists, Pentecostals, or any other denomination, but just as Christians. This book is one small way I hope to combine diverse backgrounds and beliefs as one unit.
America’s Favorite Sermons has been compiled from Christian leaders across America with one core belief – that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. The book does not attempt to account for political standing, gender or religious affiliation. What counted in our selection process was the sermon’s ability to share God's word and bless others in OUR Christian community.
My prayer for this book is that it plays a small part in helping the body of Christ set aside our personal agendas and come together as the most powerful and influential community in this great nation! I look forward to sharing these powerful messages – messages that all start with ONE core belief.
I pray that a day will come when we can all stand together proudly as brothers and sisters...and move forward as cohesive Christians in unity.
